Hi, I’m Kayla. Welcome to Migrino Therapy!
I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with 8 years of experience in disability care, particularly in autism. I know what it’s like to be in spaces where disability is part of the conversation but Mental Health isn’t.
Migrino Therapy focuses on just that. I’ve built my practice to focus on the aspects of disability care that are often overlooked. My approach to therapy is built on care, trust, and creating space for individual experiences that don’t always feel understood or have a clear place to go.
My Areas of Focus
While these are my primary areas of focus, my space is open to people from all walks of life. If something here resonates with you, you are welcomed.
Autism and Disabilities
My experience working with disabilities has been the biggest inspiration to my practice today. There’s no shortage of information about autism from prognoses, research and frameworks that tell us what autism is, and how we should understand it.
However, this doesn’t always capture the individual experience of what it feels like to live with autism day-to-day.
Here, my focus is on your personal experience and how disability has shown up in your life.
Caregivers
Caregivers are such a central part of our society. Oftentimes, the perspectives and experiences of the caregiver are overlooked. Here, the caregiver is the focal point. Your story takes centre stage.
This is a space for you to offload what you’re holding and receive the support that’s often missing from the conversation.
Emerging Adults
Transitions are a part of life. They can be exciting, but also overwhelming. Whether it’s leaving school, starting work, or navigating changes in your relationships, this is a space to talk, sort things out, and make sense of our transitions. Conquering change is possible.
My goal is to work together and discover the tools that are needed for you to thrive in this transitional time.
My Approach to Counselling
Eclectic Approach
I draw from a variety of theories and experiences, always striving to match the needs of the individual. I primarily draw from approaches such as Strength Based, Internal Family Systems, Psychodynamic and Cognitive therapies.
Virtual Sessions
All services and communications are completely virtual, allowing for a flexible and comfortable environment.
Open Minded and Affirming
My experience working with people from all walks of life have shaped my open-minded and affirming approach to counselling. Everyone is welcome, and everyone will be listened to.
Experience in the Field
I draw from close to a decade of experience across disability and mental health setting, including both community-based and inpatient care.
